Shands Lake Shore Names New Hospital Administrator
In October 2007, Shands HealthCare today named one of its top leaders, Rhonda Kay Sherrod, RN, MSN, as the new administrator for Shands Lake Shore. Sherrod has been administrator for Shands Live Oak since 1994. Prior to becoming Shands Live Oak administrator in 1994, Sherrod served two years as the hospital’s director of patient care and chief nursing officer, following three years as director of the hospital’s emergency department. As the senior administrative officer for the community hospitals, Sherrod will direct all aspects of hospital operations and serve as the primary liaison to the medical staff and the community. With more than 20 years of experience in the medical field, Sherrod serves as a regional resource for the industry. She is a board member of the Florida Hospital Association; former chair of the FHA Small and Rural Hospital Council; a board member of the Rural Health Partnership of North Central Florida; and a member of the Critical Access Hospital State Advisory Council. Her numerous civic and community activities have included United Way, Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, American Cancer Society and several education-related efforts. Sherrod holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Florida and a master’s degree in nursing from Valdosta State University. She is licensed as a registered nurse in the State of Florida. Recent Growth and Expansion Projects
In March 2007, Shands Lake Shore relocated its Health Information and Records Management department to a new 3,500-square-foot building made possible by the Lake Shore Hospital Authority. Construction of the inpatient cardiac catheterization lab is part of an expansion of services provided by University of Florida cardiovascular specialists at the UF Cardiovascular Center at Shands Lake Shore.
